Planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of a vacant site on Millwood Way in King’s Cliffe, bringing much-needed affordable housing to the area.
YMD Boon has been appointed by emh group as Architects to transform the 2,400 sqm landlocked site, currently surrounded by existing housing, into a vibrant new residential space. Plans include the construction of ten affordable homes including eight houses and two apartments, designed to integrate seamlessly with the village’s historic character.
King’s Cliffe is known for its distinctive heritage, with many buildings in the conservation area featuring local limestone and slate roofs. To complement this, the new homes will be constructed using buff brickwork, echoing the limestone tones, and topped with slate roofs reminiscent of traditional slate.
Designed by YMD Boon, the development will respect the local surroundings, incorporating similar materials, scale, and massing. Features such as mono-pitched porch canopies and sympathetically proportioned windows further enhance the development’s connection to the village’s aesthetic.
With a significant demand for rural social housing in the area, this project is a vital step toward addressing the shortfall. Over several months, the plans have been carefully refined through engagement with key stakeholders, including King’s Cliffe Parish Council, North Northamptonshire Council, and the design team.
This project builds on YMD Boon’s commitment to affordable housing, following their successful delivery of 32 affordable homes in Littlethorpe, Leicestershire for emh group earlier in 2024.
