Construction has started on a new manufacturing services facility at Rolls-Royce’s Civil Aerospace campus in Derby, with YMD Boon appointed as CDM Principal Designer, Building Regulations Principal Designer and Technical Advisor.
The development forms part of Rolls-Royce’s £140 million investment in the site. Six acres of existing buildings and infrastructure will be cleared to make way for two engineering and manufacturing services facilities, accommodating more than 300 employees.
The manufacturing services building will span approximately 3,300sqm, providing space for around 90 staff supporting factory operations.
A second engineering building will cover approximately 10,500 sqm and accommodate around 230 employees. It will bring engineering teams together to focus on areas including engine durability and performance.
YMD Boon’s appointment covers both projects, working with Turner & Townsend and McLaughlin & Harvey to provide principal designer services and technical advice.
Derby is home to Rolls-Royce’s Civil Aerospace operations. It is the UK hub for design, engineering, programme management and advanced manufacturing of its Trent large commercial aircraft engine programmes. It houses the world’s most advanced engine testing facility, and precision casting capabilities, and represents the final stage in the engines’ complex global supply chain.
The investment will provide new facilities for manufacturing, engineering, technology and safety (ET&S) services as part of Rolls-Royce’s wider £300 million UK investment programme. It reinforces Rolls-Royce’s commitment to the UK’s aerospace and defence capability.
