Project Overview

Internal reconfiguration of operational HMRC offices in Worthing to accommodate additional teams.

We were appointed as architects and principal designers for the internal reconfiguration of the three-year-old HMRC Teville Gate House, supporting the integration of the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) within the building.

The project centred on adapting the existing workspace to deliver a more efficient and flexible working environment, including the provision of additional meeting rooms and office spaces for DEFRA.

Works included internal alterations, redecoration, and a full fit-out, alongside upgrades to existing power, data, lighting, and HVAC systems to suit the revised layout. Acoustically rated panels were also introduced to enhance sound performance across a range of working environments.

The design was developed in full accordance with HMRC workspace standards and delivered to BIM Level 2. The scheme also maintained the building’s original BREEAM Excellent rating, reflecting a strong emphasis on sustainability and performance.

As the building remained a live operational government facility throughout, careful planning and coordination were essential. YMD Boon worked closely with the contractor to phase and manage the works, minimising disruption to staff and ensuring a safe and efficient environment was maintained at all times.
