Project Overview

Roof and HVAC upgrades at Yeovil Job Centre within conservation area setting.

YMD Boon were appointed to design a new roof covering and replacement rooftop HVAC plant at Yeovil Job Centre for the Department for Work and Pensions. The three-storey building is located within a conservation area and sits alongside Grade II and Grade II* listed buildings, requiring a sensitive design approach that balances necessary upgrades with the character of the surrounding buildings.

YMD Boon managed the planning process and secured planning permission.

The scheme includes the replacement of roof insulation and a new felt finish to match the existing appearance. The parapet will be raised to accommodate the revised roof build-up while maintaining a consistent visual profile. Existing HVAC plant and condensers will be removed and replaced with units of a similar size and scale, ensuring no increased visual or acoustic impact on the surrounding area.

Health and safety improvements form a key part of the project, including the installation of discreet galvanised edge protection to the roof perimeter and lightweight anti-bird netting around rooftop plant areas.

The upgrades will deliver essential maintenance and safety enhancements, ensuring the building remains operational and compliant while respecting its conservation area setting.
