Project Overview

Delivering SEND provision across Harrow schools to increase capacity and reduce placements.

We were appointed by London Borough of Harrow Council to review a number of schools and undertake area and curriculum analysis to identify opportunities for SEND provision. The aim was to reduce out-of-borough placements and increase specialist provision for pupils with special educational needs, in line with Harrow’s SEND Strategy.

Following feasibility assessments, YMD Boon supported the design and delivery of five SEND schemes across the borough, each tailored to the specific needs of the school and its pupils. At Shaftesbury High School, a two-storey extension and internal refurbishments were delivered to support pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties, including new teaching areas, sensory rooms, and meeting spaces.

At Grange, Stanburn, and Pinner Wood Primary Schools, existing spaces were refurbished and reconfigured to create specialist provisions for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and autism. These schemes incorporated classrooms, sensory spaces, soft play areas, and improved access to outdoor learning environments.

At Weald Rise Primary School, four classrooms were remodelled to accommodate 24 pupils with severe and complex needs, ensuring minimal disruption to the wider school.

Collectively, these projects have increased local SEND capacity, providing high-quality, inclusive learning environments while supporting the council’s long-term education strategy.
