The Hunny Jar, Coalville

YMD Boon was appointed by Hunny Nurseries, a well-established nursery provider in Leicestershire, to design and deliver a new nursery building, known as the Hunny Jar, at Broom Leys Primary School. This project aimed to address the shortage of nursery places in Coalville. The Hunny Jar marks their 9^th nursery.

An underutilised section of the school’s playing field was identified as the ideal location for the new building and associated car park. The nursery was carefully positioned to create a strong presence within the community while benefiting from its own dedicated access directly from the main road.

The design process focused on creating a layout tailored to the client’s operational needs. This began with a detailed understanding of key requirements, including safety, functionality, and the creation of a stimulating and engaging environment for children.

Close collaboration with the Hunny Nurseries team was maintained throughout, with a series of consultations ensuring the design fully reflected their vision and day-to-day operational needs. YMD Boon prepared comprehensive design information and successfully secured all required statutory approvals.

During construction, YMD Boon provided ongoing project management, coordinating contractors and stakeholders to maintain quality standards and ensure delivery within programme.

Throughout the design and approvals stages, careful consideration was given to the needs of both the nursery provider and Lionheart Educational Trust. The building was delivered using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), enabling a reduced construction programme and minimising disruption to the live school environment.
