YMD Boon was appointed by Hunny Nurseries, a well-established nursery provider in Leicestershire, to design and deliver a new nursery building, known as the Hunny Jar, at Broom Leys Primary School. This project aimed to address the shortage of nursery places in Coalville. The Hunny Jar marks their 9th nursery.
We identified an under-utilised area of the playing field for the new nursery block and car park, ensuring that the building was prominently positioned for the community and providing the nursery with its own dedicated access from the main road. We developed a building layout tailored to their specific needs. Our process began by thoroughly understanding the nursery's requirements, including safety, functionality, and creating an engaging environment for children.
We conducted several consultations with the Hunny Nurseries team to ensure our design aligned with their vision and operational needs. We prepared detailed plans and secured the necessary statutory approvals. During the construction phase, YMD Boon provided continuous project management and oversight, coordinating with contractors and stakeholders to ensure quality and adherence to timelines.
Throughout the design and approvals process, we maintained close coordination with the nursery provider while considering the best interests of Lionheart Educational Trust. The building was constructed using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), which allowed for shorter project timelines and minimised disruption to the school site.
