Client: Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service
Project Brief: Internal refurbishment of Wigston Fire Station and relocation of the day crew
Services: Architecture, Principal Designer
We were appointed by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service to design and deliver the refurbishment and modernisation of Wigston Fire Station including new crew quarters, welfare facilities, access controls, information services and external areas.
Included within our remit was the conversion of close-by off-site accommodation to provide essential, temporary crew quarters needed to ensure continuity of service during the main project.
We captured all requirements across the station such as service needs, emergency response arrangements during the works, crew safety, accommodation adjacencies, lift installation, recreation facilities and sleeping quarters, DDA and parking arrangements.
There was a secure digital link from the main station to the temporary crew accommodation so that service response delays did not occur.
Temporary and permanent access controls were always in place to control security and segregation of station personnel, contractors, and public visitors (pedestrian and vehicle).
We ensured that the teams were coordinated and controlled throughout. At the outset, risk management was put in place, which resolved concerns early and ensured any items were progressively removed from the register.
