Project Brief: Demolition of an existing Church Hall to create 14 apartment blocks

Services: Architecture, Principal Designer

We were appointed by Optune Homes on behalf of Derby City Council to provide architectural services to demolish an existing Church Hall and design and deliver 14 one and two bed apartment blocks including external car parking.

All room layouts were designed to comply with the council specific criteria for affordable housing.

Birch View required a major change of level and careful consideration was taken in order to maximise the space and provide suitable access to future affordable housing residents.

The site was also covered with mature trees with Tree Preservation Order. We ensured that the location of the proposal resulted in retaining as many trees as possible. Early engagement with the local authority ensured smooth process of obtaining planning approval.

Acting as Lead Designer, we were responsible for the coordination of all packages including subcontractors' design items to ensure a coordinated approach was achieved. Location of service risers were agreed and coordinated to allow for a most efficient layout.
