Client: Derby City Council
Project Brief: Major refurbishment, internal remodelling and extension of two buildings
Services: Architecture, Quantity Surveying, CDM Advisor
We were appointed by Derby City Council to provide multi-disciplinary services for a major refurbishment and remodelling of two existing buildings at Kedleston Road, Derby.
We were briefed that the spaces were to be used by different departments including social services, and for different functions such as training as well as general office space. The shared spaces therefore had to be designed to take into account the sensitivity and privacy required by the social services but also create a welcoming area for the external people using the facilities for training. Access, acoustic and safeguarding were carefully considered to ensure each user groups’ requirements are fully met.
Working in a live building required a detailed method statement from the outset. Working closely with the client team, the scheme was delivered on time and under budget.
One of the buildings was locally listed due to its historical and architectural significance. Therefore, we worked collaboratively with the M&E Engineers to ensure all features were preserved whilst a comfortable working area was provided for the users.
