Boston College - The Mayflower Centre

Client: Boston College

Project Brief: Design a unique, multifunctional building for the community

Services: Multidisciplinary services

Completion: Due to complete in 2024

YMD Boon were appointed by Boston College as lead consultant to provide multidisciplinary services to design a unique learning, business and community space at the College.

Working closely with the College, we ensured the key stakeholder’s inputs was captured, costed and coordinated at early stages of the design. The design had to go through various internal and external approvals.  We made sure relevant information was produced in a timely manner so the scheme could achieve timely sign offs.

The College worked closely with the Local Authority to ensure the wider needs of the community were also captured within the brief. Our team worked hard to ensure all changes were incorporated within the design and key stakeholders’ aspirations were captured.

The proposed building will include a digital hub, adult learning, business incubation spaces, a hair and beauty department, catering department, conference and meeting facilities, office accommodation, classrooms and teaching spaces and a ‘winter garden’ which will be linked to horticulture curriculum.

This project is in collaboration with Boston Borough Council, Boston Town Deal and Boston Leisure Centre, which will be sited opposite the Mayflower Building. They will be intrinsically designed to be linked together via a central public open space and function as a single campus.

Boston Borough Council have granted funding for The Mayflower development, read more here.
