Client: Boston Borough Council
Project Brief: Significant remodelling and extension to the existing leisure centre
Services: Multidisciplinary services
Completion: Due to complete in 2024
We were appointed by Boston Borough Council to provide multidisciplinary services, including architecture, to transform the existing Geoff Moulder Leisure Centre (GMLC) site, through significant remodelling and extension to the existing accommodation.
The GMLC is a multi-pool complex that offers public access to several swimming and health & fitness related facilities in Boston, Lincolnshire.
The works include demolishing the existing public changing and reception facilities and replacing with a new two-storey extension. The ground floor would include the foyer, reception and changing village. The gym, flexible accommodation and viewing gallery would be located on the first floor. The two pools would then be connected using the new extension.
Additionally, we will demolish the existing changing rooms and relocate the boiler. We will refurbish the existing pools with upgraded equipment and tidy up the plant area to the rear.
Externally, we will extend the car park and provide controlled access. We will open up the existing wall and create views into the pool. Further to this, we will improve the appearance of the entrance and re-clad the building using similar materials.
This project is in collaboration with Boston College and the new Mayflower Building, which will be sited opposite the Leisure Centre. The complexes will be intrinsically linked through a new public plaza. This will create an enhanced public realm that will connect the buildings, bringing together leisure and education facilities in the town.
